King Kayak to open the Main stage at Wickerman festival 2008
King Kayak one of Manchesters hardest working bands will be opening the main stage at this years Wickerman festival, a great and well dissevered achievement. Not only do they put on a great show but they are extremely lovely people too. The four piece happy elero-rock group are Veks Isism on guitar, Annie Kisster on Keyboard and vocals, Haydez on base and new member Tom aka Jon Ez on drums. Check out their Myspace page for more details and up and coming shows. Don’t forget to check out the great tracks too,
I had the opportunity to photography the band at their Roadhouse gig in Manchester earlier this year.

The Wickerman festival is a fast growing event that will run on 25th & 26th July and the weekends line up includes the likes of KT Tunstall, Grarry Newman, The Fall and Dodgy who will all grace the main stage after King Kayak. With 8 stages packed with top knoch guest including The Haciender Tour featuring Manchester legend Bez be sure to check out The Wickerman Festival main website for more details.

My mother loves frogs, so she dug her very own garden pond just for the frogs, no fish (as they would eat the tadpoles) just frogs. I’m not that fond of them myself, they make me jump especially when the grandchildren go frog hunting, huge frogs everywhere. Last year after all the kids had gone home tired out from chasing giant frogs round the garden, my dear mother sat down for a cosy night in front of the television. Then from under the T.V cabinet came what looked like a mouse. Now my mother is not the kind of person that would freak out as such a sight, the house is very close to large parklands so its not unusual to find the odd mouse coming in from the cold during winter. However it was not winter, the end of spring in fact, almost summer! Suddenly the mouse jumped, then another jumping mouse come from under the cabinet then another. It took quite a while for my mother to work out that the jumping mice where in fact frogs covered in dust balls (she don’t dust under there!). The children are no longer allowed to catch the frogs grandma says “it is too traumatizing for them”, for her maybe
I was at the bottom of the garden photographing flowers the other day and noticed the frogs just lazing about not at all bothered by me and my camera. A quick lens change and the demolition of some flowers I was able to lean right over the pond balancing my knees and shoulders on the very unstable rocks by the side of the water. Trying my hardest not to fall and keep my camera stable so I could get the shot. Then something landed on my leg, I jumped up (didn’t fall in)and kicked what I thought was a frog off my leg. Totally freaked out i ran across the garden. In for a second landing and this time I spot that it was not a frog but a baby blue tit that has just flown out of the nest for the first time and was finding it hard to get them little wings working. It settled in some long grass, so I took a quick picture before leaving the garden so that mummy bird could find it a show the little one how to fly
